About Kausani

The hills are alive with the sound of music… the hills fill my heart with the sound of music!  It is a fact that the hills are indeed alive in Kausani and the heart skips a beat with the majestic snow capped mountains basking in the sun in the backdrop. The dreamy hill station in Bageshwar district of Uttarakhand rests amidst thick pine forests overlooking a ridge segregated from the panoramic Nanda Devi Mountains towering over the low mountains in the region. No town in Uttarakhand probably offers such a spectacular view of the Himalayas like Kausani spanning 300 kilometers in radius. Kausani is a replica of Switzerland in India as Father of the Nation’ Mahatma Gandhi rightly pointed out upon visiting the area.

About Kausani

With stupendous views of Katyuri Valley, Someshwar Valley, Garur and Bajinath Valley,  Gomti River, snow covered peaks of Chaukhamba, Nanda Ghunti, Nanda Kot, Kedarnath, Nanda Devi (7,816 meters), Panchachuli (6,904 meters) and Trisul (7,120 meters); Kausani is a perfect summer resort for family and tourists in Kumaon region of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand.

History of Kausani

Formerly known as Valna, Kausani stands at 1,890 meters above sea level , the hill station received a fresh boost to its tourism count when the Father of the Nation spent a couple of days here in 1929 relaxing and thus a memorial has been erected in Kausani in honor of Bapu. Located at a distance of 47 kilometers north of Almora, Kausani gained significance due to Gandhi’s commentary of Gita Anasakti Yoga which he penned down during his stay at the hill station. Gandhi was mesmerized by the lush greenery of coniferous trees along with sunset and sunrise over the mighty Himalayas and the golden rays which cast a heavenly aura to the place. Thus the guest house where he stayed was later converted into Anasakti Ashram. Pant Museum and Laxmi Ashram are also popular tourist spots in Kausani.
